A warm and friendly Social Day Care Service for people living with mental health problems, including dementia and other disabilities, in Swaffham and the surrounding area
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGto be held at
SWAFFHAM COMMUNITY CENTRE
MONDAY 12th JULY at 7.00 pm
The Merle Boddy Centre is comfortable and well furnished and has a warm welcoming atmosphere. All of the facilities are accessible to all our members.
We have a small enclosed and secure garden area with seating for our members to enjoy. A perfect place for relaxation and social interaction. Members are also encouraged to take an interest in helping to look after the flowers and shrubs in the area.
We have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who care for the needs of all our service users. All staff attend ongoing professional development training.
We aim to offer all our members a warm welcome each day, giving support and help, both on a one-to-one basis and as a group by:
Providing a safe environment linked closely with and audited by Social Services
Organising plenty of stimulating and interesting activities linked to current events
Having adequate levels of trained staff in attendance at all times
Adoption of person centered approach
To enhance quality of life, ensuring the individual needs of members are met where possible to support well being, self esteem, and independence
We offer a wide range of services which include the following:
A caring, understanding and friendly service where our members are valued as individuals
A varied programme of stimulating activities, e.g. arts & crafts, reminiscence sessions, fun cooking, gentle exercise, quizzes, gardening, music, and song
Light refreshments on arrival
A variety of two course fresh home-style meals cooked daily on the premises by our in-house chef, catering for individual needs. We have received the highest rating for Food Hygiene from the Food Standards Agency
Afternoon refreshment
Swaffham and District Mental Health Association is a limited company by guarantee with charitable status established in 1984, that has served the people of Swaffham and district for over 30 years. It has a voluntary Board of Directors comprised of local people offering a diverse range of professional skills.
Access to the service can be made via Social Services and may qualify for funding through NCC pot Contracts. Members can also access the service by self referral private payment.
The Day Services Manager would be pleased to help with any queries you may have.
We welcome new volunteers to help with this valuable service to the local community.
Outstanding staff and care for their individual residents. My husband loves going and has made good friends. Their quality of service is outstanding all round and so helpful. We wouldn't be without them.

This is a great centre so glad it is local. My Dad who has dementia attends & is always ready and waiting to go. Gives my mum a much needed rest. Georgie and the staff work hard to make sure there are activities for all to enjoy.
A brilliant day centre, Georgie and all the staff are amazing, My husband has dementia and attends the centre, reluctantly some days, but always has a great time and comes out smiling and says how lovely everyone is. This gives me a break from the stress and worry of being his carer. If I am worry or a bit upset, they have time to talk to me too, which is very helpful, and I always go away feeling better. My father has dementia and attended the Merle Body Centre. Georgie and all her staff worked hard to ensure that he settled in as he was not easy due to his strong character. It was good to see him smiling and joining in with all the activities. I think the people of Swaffham and surrounding areas are so lucky to have such a fantastic , caring facility as there are so few places to turn to for support with this awful illness . I can’t recommend them highly enough. Thanks to all the wonderful staff.
Brilliant place, staffed by wonderful people, led by the indomitable Georgie! My elderly mother who has a variety of problems lives with us an unusual situation it seems in this day and age. The Merle Boddy have been an absolute lifesaver for our family, a haven Mum can attend, giving us a break from both the responsibility and stresses of looking after her. I cannot speak highly enough of them and would recommend them to anybody.
My mother, who has multi type dementia attends the Merle Boddy Day Centre. It has given her something to look forward to each day she goes, and without fail, says what a fantastic day she had had, and how nice everyone is. I know the care she receives there is excellent, and I now don't need to worry about her when she is there. I feel the staff all go above and beyond their roles to help make this a wonderful place - thankyou to everyone there, it is very much appreciated.
The centre is fantastic and that includes all the staff. They work tirelessly with the resources at their disposal. You can see how good they are by the smiling face of the "customers" as they leave after each session
This Day Care Centre, which provides caring services for those with mental health problems, is a wonderful facility to have available within Swaffham, for the families of Swaffham and surrounding neighbourhoods. Established for some 35 years the care service offers comfort and entertainment for the attending delegates, whilst providing some personal ' relaxation time for the caring loved ones.
